Method
Espresso Preparation
- 1
Grind the Coffee Beans
Use a burr grinder to grind 18 grams of espresso coffee beans to a fine consistency. The grind should be similar to that of table salt. Ensure the grinder is clean and calibrated for consistent results.
- 2
Prepare the Espresso Machine
Turn on your espresso machine and allow it to heat up for at least 15 minutes. This ensures that the machine reaches the optimal brewing temperature. If using a portafilter, preheat it by running a shot of hot water through it.
- 3
Tamp the Coffee Grounds
After grinding the beans, transfer the coffee grounds to the portafilter. Use a tamper to compress the coffee evenly, applying about 30 pounds of pressure. The surface should be flat and even.
- 4
Brew the Espresso
Lock the portafilter into the espresso machine's group head. Start the brewing process and let the espresso extract for about 25 to 30 seconds. The ideal espresso shot should yield around 30 ml of liquid.
- 5
Serve the Espresso
Once brewed, serve the espresso immediately in a pre-warmed espresso cup. The espresso should have a rich, dark crema on top. Enjoy it as is, or with a small amount of sugar if desired.
