Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

Prepare fig-vanilla syrup (make ahead, yields ~6–8 oz)

Combine 1 cup water, 1 cup granulated sugar, 3–4 ripe figs (halved), and 1/2 vanilla bean split lengthwise (or 1 tsp vanilla extract) in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer, stirring until sugar dissolves. Simmer gently for 8–10 minutes to infuse. Remove from heat, cool 30 minutes, then strain solids and reserve syrup. Refrigerate up to 2 weeks.

  2. 2

If using egg white for texture, perform a dry shake first: add vodka, pomegranate juice, fig-vanilla syrup, lemon juice, orange blossom water, optional Cointreau, and egg white to a shaker with no ice. Seal and shake vigorously 12–15 seconds to emulsify and build foam.

  3. 3

Add ice to the shaker (enough to fill roughly 2/3 of the shaker). Shake again hard for 10–12 seconds until the shaker is very cold and the exterior is frosty. This chills and dilutes the cocktail properly.

  4. 4

Fine-strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass (or a rocks glass over one large cube if you prefer it on the rocks). Use a fine mesh strainer if you used egg white to achieve a silky texture.

  5. 5

If you skipped the egg white, simply add ingredients and a scoop of ice to the shaker, shake hard 10–12 seconds, and double-strain into the chilled glass.

Garnish & Finish

  1. 6

Place 1 tsp of fresh pomegranate seeds gently on the surface of the cocktail to rest in the foam or at the bottom of the glass for visual appeal.

  2. 7

Float a thin orange twist over the drink or express the oils over the surface before dropping it in. Thread a candied or dried fig slice on a cocktail pick and rest it across the rim or lay it gently on the glass edge.

  3. 8

Optionally mist a tiny additional spray (1–2 sprays) of orange blossom water over the finished cocktail from a kitchen atomizer for an aromatic lift. Serve immediately.
