Potatoes

Method

Preparation

1

Wash and Cut Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under running water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel. Cut each potato into evenly sized strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

2

Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips into a large bowl of cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to an hour to remove excess starch, which will help achieve crispiness.

Cooking

3

Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a kitchen thermometer to check the temperature.

4

Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the water and spread the potato strips on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Pat them dry to remove any excess moisture.

5

Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried potato strips to the hot oil. Fry them in batches for about 5-6 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pot.

6

Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried potatoes and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
