Garlic butter spread
Bread dippers
Finishing & serving
Method
Garlic butter spread
Soften butter
Leave the unsalted butter at room temperature for 20–30 minutes until pliable, or microwave in 5–7 second bursts until just softened (do not melt).
Prepare garlic
Peel the garlic cloves and finely mince or grate them on a microplane so they become almost paste-like. This ensures even distribution and intense garlic flavor.
Mix herb butter
In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, chopped basil (if using), grated Parmesan, lemon zest, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir thoroughly with a spatula until homogenized and smooth. Taste and adjust salt or lemon zest as desired.
Chill slightly (optional)
If the butter is too soft to spread, refrigerate the mixture for 15–20 minutes to firm up slightly. Alternatively, keep at room temperature if you plan to spread immediately.
Bread dippers
Preheat oven
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Position a rack in the middle of the oven.
Prepare loaf
Slice the baguette on a diagonal or into 3/4-inch (2 cm) thick rounds to create dippers about the size of a finger. If you prefer longer dippers, slice lengthwise into strips. Place slices on a baking sheet in a single layer.
Toast bread
Bake the oiled bread slices in the preheated oven for 5–7 minutes, until edges are lightly golden but centers still slightly soft. Remove from oven.
Spread garlic butter and finish
While the bread is hot, spread about 1 tablespoon of the garlic butter on each slice (adjust to taste). Return the buttered slices to the oven for 3–4 minutes until butter melts and edges turn crisp and golden. For extra browning, broil for 30–60 seconds—watch closely to avoid burning.
Finishing & serving
Remove the garlic bread dippers from the oven and immediately sprinkle with extra grated Parmesan and chopped parsley. Let rest 1–2 minutes so butter sets slightly but remains warm and dip-friendly.
Serve warm on a platter with marinara, cheesy fondue, or a dipping sauce of your choice. Leftover garlic butter can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
