Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let it Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Topping Preparation
- 5
Cook the Sausage
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sweet Italian sausage until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat and set aside.
- 6
Make the Pink Cream Sauce
In the same skillet, add vodka and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes. Reduce heat, add heavy cream and marinara sauce, and stir until well combined. Simmer for another 5 minutes.
- 7
Combine Ingredients
Add the cooked sausage and fresh basil to the pink cream sauce and mix well. Season with crushed red pepper flakes to taste.
Pizza Assembly and Baking
- 8
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
- 9
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- 10
Assemble the Pizza
Place the rolled-out dough on a pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread the pink cream sauce with sausage over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
- 11
Bake the Pizza
Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- 12
Serve
Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, slice, and serve hot with additional crushed red pepper flakes if desired.
