Bolognese Sauce
Lasagna Assembly
Method
Bolognese Sauce Preparation
- 1
Sauté Vegetables
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes, until the vegetables are soft.
- 2
Add Garlic and Meat
Stir in the minced garlic and ground beef. Cook until the beef is browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 7-10 minutes.
- 3
Combine Tomatoes and Seasonings
Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. If using wine, add it now. Stir well to combine.
- 4
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. The longer it simmers, the better the flavor.
Lasagna Assembly
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- 6
Cook Lasagna Noodles
Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay them flat on a clean surface to prevent sticking.
- 7
Layer the Lasagna
In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of Bolognese sauce on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, then add a layer of Bolognese sauce, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese. Repeat this process until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of sauce and a generous topping of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- 8
Bake the Lasagna
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- 9
Garnish and Serve
Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes. Sprinkle with fresh basil before slicing and serving.
