Cooking Pasta
- 1
Boil the Pasta
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the cavatelli pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 7-9 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Making the Sauce
- 2
Brown the Sausage
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Italian sausage. Cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- 3
Sauté Vegetables
In the same skillet, add olive oil. Once hot, add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add sliced red bell pepper and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- 4
Add Tomatoes and Broth
Stir in cherry tomatoes and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until they start to soften. Add chicken broth, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

Combine Everything
Once the sauce is simmering, return the browned sausage to the skillet. Stir to combine and let it cook together for another 5 minutes. Finally, add the cooked cavatelli and chopped fresh basil, tossing everything together until well coated with the sauce.
