Prepare Ingredients
Finely chop the onion, carrot, celery stalk, and garlic cloves. Set aside.
- 2
- 3
Brown the Meat
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the pan. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 7-10 minutes.
- 4
Add Tomatoes and Wine
Once the meat is browned, stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Mix well to combine.
- 5
Season the Sauce
Add the dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to taste. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 6
Cook Spaghetti
While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the spaghetti.
- 7
Combine and Serve
Once the sauce has thickened, stir in chopped fresh basil. Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Top with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
