Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the cake.

  2. 2

    Prepare Cake Pans

Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans to prevent sticking.

  3. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  4. 4

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.

  5. 5

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water to the batter until well combined. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Pour into Pans

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  8. 8

    Cool

Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 9

    Beat Butter

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy and smooth.

  2. 10

    Add Cocoa Powder

Gradually add the cocoa powder and mix until well combined.

  3. 11

    Incorporate Sugar and Milk

Alternate adding powdered sugar and milk, mixing thoroughly until you reach a spreadable consistency.

  4. 12

    Add Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until the frosting is light and fluffy.

  5. 13

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
