Custard Preparation
- 1
Make the Custard
In a large mixing bowl, combine the egg yolks and granulated sugar. Whisk until the mixture is pale and creamy.
- 2
Add Mascarpone
Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
- 3
Whip the Cream
In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.

Prepare the Coffee Mixture
In a shallow dish, mix the brewed espresso and coffee liqueur (if using) together. Allow it to cool slightly.

- 5
Soak the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
- 6
Layer the Ingredients
In a rectangular dish, arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone custard over the ladyfingers.
- 7
Repeat the Layers
Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone custard. Smooth the top with a spatula.
