Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Pasta Dough

In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the eggs. Gradually mix the flour into the eggs until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth. Wrap in plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Meat Filling

  1. 2

    Cook the Meat

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Italian sausage and ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 8-10 minutes. Add the garlic and onion, and sauté for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent. Stir in the marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat.

Cheese Mixture

  1. 3

    Prepare the Cheese Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, beaten egg, chopped basil, 0.5 tsp salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined. Set aside.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 4

    Roll Out the Pasta

After the dough has rested, divide it into four pieces. Roll out each piece into thin sheets using a pasta machine or rolling pin. Cut the sheets to fit your baking dish.

  2. 5

    Layer the Lasagna

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer pasta sheets over the sauce, followed by a layer of the cheese mixture. Sprinkle with shredded mozzarella and a little Parmesan. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of meat sauce and topped with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.

  3. 6

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
