Glass + Garnish

Method

Glass + Garnish

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

If desired, chill the flute by placing it in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the juice. Empty the ice water before pouring.

  2. 2

    Garnish

Cut a thin slice or twist of orange. Make a small slit in the peel and place it on the rim of the flute, or float the slice in the drink.

Drink

  1. 3

    Chill ingredients

Ensure both the sparkling wine and the orange juice are well chilled (ideally under 45°F / 7°C). If needed, set the bottle in an ice bucket for 10 minutes or place the juice in the fridge.

  2. 4

    Optional liqueur

If using orange liqueur, pour 0.25 oz (about 7–8 ml) into the bottom of the chilled flute. Swirl gently to coat the base.

  3. 5

    Add orange juice

Pour 3 oz (about 90 ml) of freshly squeezed orange juice into the flute. Pour gently to avoid splashing.

  4. 6

    Top with sparkling wine

Slowly tilt the flute and pour 3 oz (about 90 ml) of chilled Champagne or dry sparkling wine down the side so it layers and preserves bubbles. Pour gently to minimize foam overflow.

  5. 7

    Finish and serve

Give the drink a very gentle stir if you prefer uniform mixing (not required). Add the orange slice or twist to the rim. Serve immediately while bubbly.
