Method
Soda Base
- 1
Measure and chill
Ensure carbonated water and syrup are chilled. Measure 12 fl oz of cold carbonated water and 1.5 fl oz of fountain soda syrup (this is a typical 8:1 water-to-syrup ratio; follow syrup manufacturer recommendations if different).
- 2
Pour syrup
Pour the measured 1.5 fl oz of syrup into a clean serving glass or into the soda dispenser's mix chamber if using a commercial fountain head.
- 3
Add carbonated water
Gently pour or dispense 12 fl oz of cold carbonated water into the glass over the back of a spoon or down the side to preserve carbonation. If using a fountain machine, engage the dispenser for the measured volume so syrup and carbonated water mix as designed.
- 4
Stir lightly
Using a long spoon or stir stick, give the drink one or two gentle stirs to evenly combine syrup and carbonated water without knocking out excessive fizz.
Optional Additions
- 5
If desired, add 1 cup of ice cubes to the glass before or after pouring the soda. Note: adding ice will chill but slightly dilute the soda as the ice melts.
- 6
Garnish with a lemon or lime wedge on the rim, a maraschino cherry dropped in, or a sprig of fresh mint for aroma. Serve immediately with a straw or glass straw.
