Honey BBQ Sauce
For Serving / Finishing (optional)
Method
Honey BBQ Sauce
Build the sauce
Reduce heat to medium-low. Stir in the tomato ketchup, apple cider vinegar, honey, and brown sugar until smooth and combined.
Season and thin
Add the Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, black pepper, kosher salt, dry mustard, and hot sauce (if using). Stir well. Add 2 tablespoons of water to loosen the sauce to a glossier, brushable consistency. If you prefer a thinner sauce, add up to 1–2 more tablespoons of water, a teaspoon at a time.
Simmer and meld flavors
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over low heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10–12 minutes so flavors meld and the sauce thickens slightly. Taste and adjust: add a pinch more salt for balance, more honey for sweetness, or a touch more vinegar for brightness.
Finish and store
Turn off the heat and let the sauce cool for a few minutes. For an ultra-smooth texture, strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing on solids to extract flavor (optional). Transfer to a jar. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools. Store refrigerated up to 2 weeks.
For Serving / Finishing (optional)
If using on grilled meats: during the last 5–10 minutes of cooking time, brush the Honey BBQ sauce onto chicken, ribs, or pork. Apply 2–3 thin coats, allowing each coat to set for 1–2 minutes so glaze builds without burning. For an extra glossy finish, mix 1 tablespoon of extra honey with 1 tablespoon of sauce and brush on as the final coat.
Serve hot with additional sauce on the side and a sprinkle of chopped fresh parsley for color, if desired.
