Ingredients
Wine Bottle
Serving & Optional Enhancements
Wine Bottle
1. Check & Chill
Check the bottle for sediment and label details. Chill the Malbec to serving temperature: ideally 14–16°C (57–61°F). If stored warmer, place bottle in refrigerator for 30–45 minutes; if too cold, remove 10–15 minutes before serving.
2. Open Bottle
Use a waiter-style corkscrew to remove the cork cleanly. Wipe the rim and lip of the bottle with a clean cloth or napkin to remove any cork particles or dust.
3. Decant (optional)
If the wine is young (vibrant fruit) decant for 20–45 minutes to open aromas. If the bottle is older or you suspect sediment, decant carefully: stand bottle upright for 12–24 hours beforehand, then pour slowly into a decanter, stopping when you see sediment reach the neck.
Serving & Optional Enhancements
4. Select Glassware
Use large-bowled red wine glasses (Bordeaux style) to concentrate the wine's aromas. Ensure glasses are clean and dry.
5. Pouring
Pour about 120–150 ml (4–5 oz) per glass for tasting or casual serve. Fill no more than one-third of the glass to allow swirling and aeration.
6. Tasting & Pairing
Swirl gently, sniff to identify aromas (dark fruit, plum, violet, spice), then take small sips to assess structure (tannin, acidity). Serve with room-temperature accompaniments such as aged cheeses, grilled red meats, charcuterie, or dishes with roasted vegetables. Provide a pitcher of filtered water for palate cleansing between sips or food.
7. Storage After Opening
Recork the bottle or use a wine stopper and refrigerate upright. Consume within 3–5 days for best quality. If decanted, pour remaining wine back into the bottle before refrigerating to reduce oxygen exposure.
