Cocktail

1

Prepare glass

Place a large old-fashioned or rocks glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water to chill while you build the cocktail.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass, add 2 oz Japanese whisky, 0.25 oz Luxardo maraschino liqueur, 0.25 oz fresh yuzu juice, 0.25 oz demerara sugar syrup, 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters.

3

Stir and dilute

Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full turns) until well-chilled and properly diluted (mix should be slightly viscous and cold).

4

Prepare serving glass

Discard the ice or water from the chilled serving glass. Place a single large ice cube into the glass.

5

Strain

Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, strain the chilled mixture from the mixing glass into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube.

6

Express and garnish

Take the orange peel and hold it over the glass, skin side down. Give it a firm twist to express the oils over the drink, then wipe the rim with the peel and either drop it into the glass or discard. Optionally, add a Luxardo cherry on a pick and rest it on the ice.

7

Final

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the balance of whisky, cherry-laced maraschino, bright yuzu, and bitter/spiced notes.
