Method

Glass Prep

1

Chill the glass

Place the cocktail glass in the freezer for 10 minutes or fill it with the 1/2 cup of cold water and a few ice cubes to chill while you prepare the drink. Let sit for 2–3 minutes, then discard the water and dry the glass with a clean towel or let air dry.

Cocktail Assembly

2

Combine ingredients

Fill a mixing glass or shaker with the 1 cup of ice. Pour in 2 oz gin (or vodka), 1/2 oz dry vermouth, and add 2 dashes of orange bitters.

3

Stir or shake

If you prefer a clear, silky texture, stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 30–45 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted. If you prefer a colder, slightly cloudier drink, shake vigorously for 8–10 seconds.

4

Strain

Using a strainer, pour the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass or shaker into the prepared chilled cocktail glass, leaving the ice behind.

Garnish & Serve

5

Finish

Express the lemon twist over the drink by holding it with the peel side down and giving it a quick twist to release the oils, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass. Alternatively, garnish with 1 olive on a cocktail pick if you prefer a savory note. Serve immediately.
