Cocktail

Method

Prepare Glass & Aromatics

  1. 1

    Chill and scent

Place a coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer for a few minutes to chill. If using the optional aromatic, express the orange peel over the chilled glass (twist to release oils) and rub the peel along the rim. Add one light spritz of orange blossom water to the inside of the chilled glass and set aside.

Muddle & Build

  1. 2

In a mixing glass or shaker, add the fresh cilantro leaves and the turbinado simple syrup (0.5 oz). Gently muddle 6 cilantro leaves just enough to bruise and release bright herbal oils—do not pulverize into a paste. This brings forward the cilantro's green, slightly citrusy notes.

  2. 3

Add the gin (2 oz), aperitif (0.5 oz), and freshly squeezed kalamansi juice (0.75 oz) to the shaker. Add the orange blossom water (3 tsp).

  3. 4

Fill the shaker with ice (enough to chill aggressively, about 6 standard cubes). Cap and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted. The orange blossom water and turbinado syrup will integrate into the spirit and citrus base, lending floral and caramelized sugar notes.

Strain & Serve

  1. 5

Double-strain the cocktail through a fine-mesh strainer (to remove small cilantro bits and ice shards) into the prepared chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass.

  2. 6

Garnish by floating a thin kalamansi wheel or a small orange twist on the surface. Finish with a small pinch (about 1/2 tsp) of chopped cilantro blossoms or micro-cilantro placed delicately on the drink for aroma and visual contrast.

  3. 7

Serve immediately. The finished cocktail is tart, floral, and herbaceous — aim for a final volume of about 3.5 oz and an approximate ABV around 21.6% depending on the gin and aperitif used.
