Breadsticks

Method

Breadsticks

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, garlic powder, dried oregano, and dried basil together.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Once the yeast is activated, add it along with the olive oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  6. 6

    Shape the Breadsticks

After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a rectangle and cut into strips of desired width.

  7. 7

    Second Rise

Place the strips on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  8. 8

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  9. 9

    Bake

Brush the tops of the breadsticks with olive oil and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 10

    Heat Olive Oil

In a saucepan over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

  2. 11

    Sauté Garlic

Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  3. 12

    Add Tomatoes

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer.

  4. 13

    Season the Sauce

Add dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, sugar, and red pepper flakes. Stir well to combine.

  5. 14

    Simmer

Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. 15

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Stir in the chopped fresh basil leaves just before serving.
