Cocktail Base

Method

Cocktail Prep

  1. 1

    Chill glass and measure

If desired, chill a highball or Collins glass by filling it with ice and setting it aside while you prepare the drink. Measure 2 oz of vodka, 1/2 oz fresh lime juice, and 1/4 oz simple syrup.

  2. 2

    Build and mix

Discard the chilling ice from the glass if you chilled it. Fill the glass with fresh ice to about three-quarters full (roughly 1 cup). Add the 2 oz vodka, 1/2 oz fresh lime juice, and 1/4 oz simple syrup directly into the glass.

  3. 3

    Top with seltzer

Open one 12 oz (approx.) can of hard seltzer (High Noon, Nutrl, White Claw, or similar) and gently pour it into the glass to top (about 8–10 oz depending on glass size and ice). Pour slowly to retain effervescence and avoid foaming over.

  4. 4

    Light stir

Use a bar spoon or a long spoon to gently stir the drink 2–3 times to integrate vodka, lime, and syrup with the seltzer without flattening the carbonation.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 5

Garnish the drink with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Optionally slap a mint sprig between your hands to brighten the oils and tuck it into the drink for aroma. Serve immediately while fizzy.
