Cottage Pie Ingredients

Method

Cottage Pie Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the beef mixture

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Angus beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  2. 2

    Add vegetables

Add diced onions, carrots, and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are tender.

  3. 3

    Simmer with spices

Stir in the beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 4

    Prepare the mashed potatoes

While the beef mixture is simmering, boil the diced potatoes in salted water until fork-tender. Drain and return to the pot.

  5. 5

    Mash the potatoes

Add butter and milk to the potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. 6

    Assemble the pie

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). In a baking dish, spread the beef mixture evenly, then top it with the mashed potatoes. Smooth the top with a spatula.

  7. 7

    Add cheese and bake

Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top of the mashed potatoes. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  8. 8

    Serve

Let the Cottage Pie cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your hearty dinner!
