For the Mozzarella Sticks

Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Freeze the mozzarella sticks for about 30 minutes before starting the breading process to prevent them from melting while frying.

  2. 2

    Set up the Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place the flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Bread the Mozzarella Sticks

Dip each frozen mozzarella stick first into the flour, ensuring it is completely coated. Then dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to adhere. Repeat until all sticks are coated.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep skillet, heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully place a few breaded mozzarella sticks in the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté for about 3-5 minutes until softened.

  2. 7

    Add the Tomatoes and Seasoning

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Stir in the fresh basil just before serving.
