Method

Meat Preparation

  1. 1

    Roasting the Meat

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Season the top round beef or turkey breast with salt and pepper. Place it in a roasting pan and roast for about 2 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C) for turkey or 135°F (57°C) for beef.

  2. 2

    Slicing the Meat

Once the meat is fully cooked, remove it from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes. Thinly slice the meat against the grain for tender pieces.

Gravy Preparation

  1. 3

    Heating the Gravy

In a saucepan, heat the beef or turkey gravy over medium heat until it is heated through. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Mashed Potatoes

  1. 4

    Preparing the Potatoes

Peel and chop the potatoes into equal-sized pieces. Place them in a pot, cover with cold water, and add a teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 5

    Mashing the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Building the Open-Faced Sandwich

Toast the slices of white bread lightly. Place the thinly sliced beef or turkey on top of each slice of bread. Generously pour the heated gravy over the meat.

  2. 7

    Serving

Serve the open-faced hot beef or turkey sandwiches with a side of freshly mashed potatoes, topped with additional gravy if desired.
