Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meatballs

In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Prepare the Marinara Sauce

In the same skillet used for the meatballs, add olive oil and minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine and let simmer for 15-20 minutes.

  3. 6

    Add Meatballs to Sauce

Return the meatballs to the skillet with the marinara sauce and simmer for an additional 10 minutes.

Toasted Rolls

  1. 7

    Toast the Rolls

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread butter on the inside of each sub roll and place them on a baking sheet. Toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Assemble the Meatball Subs

In each toasted sub roll, place 3-4 meatballs and spoon marinara sauce over them. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese and chopped fresh parsley.

  2. 9

    Melt the Cheese

Optional: Place the assembled subs back in the oven for an additional 5 minutes to melt the cheese.
