Method
Prepare the Chicken Fried Steak
- 1
Tenderize the Steak
Using a meat mallet, pound the beef round steak to about 1/2 inch thickness. This helps in tenderizing the meat.
- 2
Marinate the Steak
Place the tenderized steak in a bowl and cover it with buttermilk. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
- 3
Prepare the Breading
In a shallow dish, mix the cup of all-purpose flour with salt and black pepper.
- 4
Coat the Steak
Take the marinated steak out of the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge it in the seasoned flour, ensuring it is fully coated.
Cook the Chicken Fried Steak
- 5
Fry the Steak
In a large skillet, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded steak. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.
- 6
Remove and Drain
Once cooked, transfer the steak to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Prepare the Country Gravy
- 7
- 8
Add Milk
Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
- 9
Season the Gravy
Add salt and black pepper to taste, stirring to combine.
Cook the Eggs and Assemble the Dish

- 11
Assemble the Dish
Place the fried steak on a plate, top with the country gravy, and sprinkle the mixed shredded cheese on top. Add the cooked eggs to the side.
