Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Glass

Begin by chilling an Old Fashioned glass (or lowball glass) by filling it with ice water and letting it sit while you prepare the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Muddle the Ingredients

In a mixing glass, add the turbinado sugar and a splash of water. Muddle until the sugar is dissolved. Add the basil leaves and gently muddle them to release their essential oils without tearing them too much.

  3. 3

    Add Spirits and Bitters

Pour in the Juarez Tequila, Aperol, Rittenhouse Rye, and Old Forester Bourbon into the mixing glass. Add the Angostura and Black Walnut bitters.

  4. 4

    Mix the Cocktail

Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir gently with a bar spoon for about 20-30 seconds until well chilled and combined.

  5. 5

    Strain into Glass

Discard the ice water from the Old Fashioned glass and strain the cocktail into the glass over a large ice cube or a few smaller ice cubes.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Garnish the cocktail with a basil leaf or a twist of orange peel if desired. Serve immediately.
