Matcha Latte Base

Method

Matcha Latte Base

1

Sift and bloom matcha

Sift 1.5 tsp matcha into a small bowl to remove clumps. Add 2 tbsp hot water (about 175°F / 80°C). Whisk briskly in a zig-zag motion with a bamboo whisk or small whisk until frothy and no lumps remain, about 20–30 seconds.

2

Warm and sweeten milk

Heat 1.5 cups milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until steaming (do not boil), about 3–4 minutes. Stir in 1 tsp granulated sugar and 1 tsp vanilla extract until dissolved. If you have a milk frother, froth to produce microfoam; otherwise whisk vigorously for 20–30 seconds.

3

Combine matcha and milk

Pour the prepared matcha concentrate into a 12-oz serving cup. Slowly pour the warmed milk into the cup, holding back foam with a spoon and then spooning foam on top to fill to about 12 oz level. Stir gently once to incorporate.

Tiramisu Elements

4

Prepare espresso shot

Pull a 1.5 oz shot of espresso or prepare 1.5 oz very strong brewed coffee. If using coffee liqueur, mix it with the espresso. Set aside to stay warm.

5

Make mascarpone topping

In a small bowl, whisk together 1.5 tbsp mascarpone, 2 tbsp heavy cream, and 1 tsp caster sugar until smooth and slightly aerated (thick but pourable). Taste and adjust sweetness. This creates a creamy tiramisu-style float to top the latte.

6

Layer tiramisu elements into the latte

Pour the warm espresso (or espresso + liqueur) slowly into the prepared matcha latte near the cup wall so it creates a subtle swirl without breaking the foam too much. Gently spoon the mascarpone cream over the foam in the center to create a small creamy layer (about 1–1.5 tbsp).

Garnish & Finish

7

Dusting: Using a fine-mesh sieve, dust 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder lightly over the mascarpone cream layer. Dust 1/4 tsp matcha powder off-center for a layered visual and extra matcha aroma.

8

Optional crunch: Sprinkle 1 tbsp crushed ladyfinger or biscotti crumbs around the cream (not fully sinking) to evoke tiramisu texture.

9

Serve immediately: Present the Hot Matcha Tiramisu Latte hot. Encourage stirring gently before drinking to incorporate the tiramisu cream and espresso swirl into the matcha base for the full flavor experience.
