Main Ingredients

For Frying

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Boil Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into quarters. Place the quarters in a large pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 2

    Drain and Cool

Once cooked, drain the potatoes and let them cool for about 10 minutes until they are easier to handle.

  3. 3

    Mash Potatoes

Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the potatoes until smooth. Allow the mashed potatoes to cool completely.

Mixing Ingredients

  1. 4

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the cooled mashed potatoes, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until fully combined and a dough forms.

  2. 5

    Shape Tater Tots

Using your hands, take small portions of the potato mixture and shape them into small cylindrical forms, resembling tater tots. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Frying

  1. 6

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 7

    Fry Tater Tots

Once the oil is hot, carefully add the shaped tater tots in batches. Fry them for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  3. 8

    Drain Oil

Using a slotted spoon, remove the tater tots from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve Hot

Serve the tater tots hot with your favorite dipping sauces or enjoy them plain. They are best eaten fresh!
