Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Lasagna Noodles

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay flat on a clean kitchen towel to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Meat Sauce

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic, sautéing until the onions are translucent. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 3

    Mix the Cheese Mixture

In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley. Mix well until smooth.

Assembly

  1. 4

    Layer the Ingredients

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by one-third of the meat sauce, and a sprinkle of shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers two more times, finishing with a final layer of noodles topped with the remaining meat sauce and a generous layer of mozzarella cheese.

Baking

  1. 5

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
