Main Ingredients

Method

Cooking the Rice

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the short-grain rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water for about 2-3 minutes until the water runs clear. This step removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming gummy.

  2. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, and salt. Stir well to ensure the salt is dissolved.

  3. 3

    Bring to a Boil

Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low.

  4. 4

    Simmer and Cook

Cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid and let it simmer on low heat for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed. Do not remove the lid during cooking.

  5. 5

    Fluff the Rice

Once cooked, remove the saucepan from heat. Allow it to sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Then, use a fork to fluff the rice gently.

Adding Flavor

  1. 6

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.

  2. 7

    Add Bell Pepper

Stir in the diced bell pepper and continue to sauté for another 3-4 minutes, until the peppers are tender.

  3. 8

    Combine with Rice

Add the cooked rice to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables. Stir well to combine all the ingredients evenly.

  4. 9

    Finish with Parsley

Remove from heat and stir in the chopped fresh parsley. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm.
