Bench Blend Cocktail

Method

Bench Blend Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place an Old Fashioned glass (rocks glass) in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the drink.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled with ice, pour 2 oz bourbon, 0.5 oz Campari, 0.75 oz sweet vermouth, 0.25 oz coffee liqueur, 0.25 oz simple syrup (or brown sugar syrup), and add 2 dashes chocolate bitters.

3

Stir

Stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 25–30 seconds (about 20–30 full turns) until well chilled and properly diluted (glass feels cold and slightly wet on the outside). Stirring preserves clarity and smoothness.

4

Prepare glass

Remove the chilled glass from the freezer or discard the ice water. Place a large ice cube (or fresh ice) into the chilled Old Fashioned glass.

5

Strain

Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared glass over the large ice cube.

6

Garnish

Express the oils from an orange peel over the surface of the drink by holding the peel skin-side down and giving it a firm twist. Rub the peel around the rim of the glass and drop it into the drink as a garnish.

7

Serve

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the balance of bourbon warmth, bitter Campari, and bittersweet coffee and chocolate notes.
