Bread & Spread

Method

Bread & Spread

1

Preheat oven

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Position an oven rack in the middle.

2

Prepare garlic butter

In a medium bowl, combine softened butter, olive oil, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth and uniform.

3

Slice the bread

Cut the loaf in half lengthwise so you have two flat surfaces. If preferred, cut into 1-inch thick slices without cutting all the way through for pull-apart style; this recipe uses halved loaf for even topping.

4

Spread butter mixture

Using a spatula or knife, spread the garlic butter evenly over the cut sides of the bread, covering to the edges. Reserve any leftover butter for later or extra greasing.

Cheese & Topping

5

Add cheeses

Evenly sprinkle the shredded Mozzarella over the buttered cut surfaces. Follow with a light dusting of grated Parmesan. Press gently so cheese adheres to the butter.

6

Season

Sprinkle dried oregano and, if using, red pepper flakes evenly over the cheese for extra flavor.

7

Bake until bubbly

Place the assembled bread on a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment. Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling. For a golden, slightly charred top, switch to broil on high for 1–2 minutes while watching closely to avoid burning.

Serve

8

Finish & slice

Remove the bread from the oven and let rest 2 minutes. If using halved loaf, slice into 1–1.5 inch pieces. If pull-apart style, cut through to separate portions.

9

Serve with marinara

Transfer to a platter and serve warm with a bowl of warm marinara sauce for dipping alongside. Enjoy immediately.
