Method

Prepare Mussels

  1. 1

    Clean the Mussels

Rinse the fresh mussels under cold running water. Scrub the shells with a brush to remove any dirt or barnacles. Remove any beards (the fibrous strands) by pulling them out firmly.

  2. 2

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large pot, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped shallots, and sauté until fragrant and translucent, about 2-3 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Wine and Mussels

Pour in the white wine and bring to a simmer. Add the cleaned mussels to the pot, cover, and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels have opened up. Discard any mussels that remain closed.

  4. 4

    Season and Garnish

Once the mussels are cooked, add chopped fresh parsley, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine and remove from heat.

Prepare Bread

  1. 5

    Prepare and Toast Bread

Slice the crusty bread into thick pieces. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with garlic powder. Spread the garlic butter mixture onto each slice of bread. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and arrange the bread slices on a baking sheet.

  2. 6

    Toast in Oven

Toast the bread in the preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.
