Whiskey & Serving

Method

Whiskey & Serving

  1. 1

    Pour

Pour 2 oz of Redbreast 12-year into a clean tulip or Glencairn-style whisky glass at room temperature.

  2. 2

    Observe & Nose

Hold the glass by the stem or base and tilt it slightly. Look at the colour and legs. Bring the glass to your nose and inhale gently with short sniffs to pick up the whiskey’s aromas (dried fruit, toasted oak, sherry, spices).

  3. 3

    Taste

Take a small sip and let it coat your tongue. Note the initial flavours (vanilla, orchard fruit, nutty/sherry notes). Swallow or spit per preference.

  4. 4

    Add Water (optional)

If you want to open the whiskey and reveal more subtleties, add up to 1 tsp of room-temperature water to the glass, stir gently with a finger or spoon, then repeat nosing and tasting to observe changes.

Glass & Garnish

  1. 5

    Warm the Glass

Warm the glass briefly with your hands to release aromatics before nosing and tasting.

  2. 6

    Garnish (optional)

Express the citrus peel over the glass by holding it about 2–3 inches above the whisky and giving it a quick twist to release oils, then rub the peel on the rim and drop it into the glass if desired.
