Add ice and stir
Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes (about 4 cubes). Stir gently for 30–45 seconds until the mixture is well chilled, slightly diluted, and slightly viscous—this usually opens the whisky and integrates the sweet components.

Strain
Discard the ice or water from your chilled serving glass. Double-strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora using a Hawthorne/ julep strainer; a fine mesh is optional but not necessary for this stirred drink.

Garnish
Express the oils from 1 lemon peel over the surface of the cocktail by holding the peel skin-side down above the drink and giving it a quick twist. Rub the peel on the rim if desired, then drop the twist into the drink or discard according to preference.

Serve
Serve immediately. The profile should highlight the single malt's character balanced by the vinous sweetness of the vermouth, a hint of orange, and gentle bitterness from Angostura.
