Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Muddle ginger

In a mixing glass, add the thinly sliced fresh ginger. Gently muddle 4 slices just enough to release aromatic oils and a touch of juice—do not pulverize. This adds fresh ginger brightness without overpowering.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

Add 2 oz Irish whiskey, 0.5 oz honey syrup, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz dry vermouth, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters to the mixing glass with the muddled ginger.

  3. 3

    Shake with ice

Fill the mixing glass or a cocktail shaker with about 1 cup of ice. Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels cold and slightly frosted. This chills, dilutes, and integrates the honey syrup.

  4. 4

    Double-strain

Using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh (or a julep strainer), double-strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or rocks glass. Double-straining removes small ginger bits and ice shards for a smooth sip.

  5. 5

    Optional soda top

If you prefer a lighter, slightly effervescent version, top the cocktail with about 1 oz (a gentle splash) of club soda. Stir once gently with a bar spoon to incorporate.

  6. 6

    Garnish and serve

Express a lemon twist over the drink to release oils, rub the peel on the glass rim if desired, then drop it in or rest it on the rim. Serve immediately.
