Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass add 2 oz Irish whiskey, 0.75 oz sweet vermouth, 0.25 oz dry vermouth, 0.25 oz Green Chartreuse, 0.25 oz orange curaçao, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.
- 3
Add ice
Fill the mixing glass with plenty of fresh ice so the liquid can be properly chilled and diluted (about 6–8 large cubes).
- 4
Stir
Stir the mixture gently with a bar spoon for 25–30 seconds (about 20–25 full rotations) until the liquid is well chilled and slightly viscous from dilution.
- 5
Prepare glass
Dump the ice water from your chilled glass (if used) and, optionally, run the orange twist around the rim to impart aroma.
- 6
Strain and garnish
Double strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled coupe over a single large ice cube (if using a rocks glass) or neat into the coupe. Express the oils of the orange twist over the surface by holding the twist skin-side down and giving it a quick pinch, then drop the twist into the drink as garnish.
- 7
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the balance of sweet vermouth, herbal Chartreuse, and the smoothness of the Irish whiskey with a bright orange lift.
