Method

Cooking Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic (2 cloves), grated Parmesan cheese (4 oz), salt (1 tsp), black pepper (1 tsp), and Italian seasoning (1 tsp). Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs about 1.5 inches in diameter and place them on a baking sheet.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20 minutes, or until browned and cooked through.

Making Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil (2 tbs) over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic (3 cloves) and sauté for an additional minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in crushed tomatoes (28 oz), basil (1 tbs), salt (1 tsp), black pepper (1 tsp), and sugar (1 tsp). Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes.

Cooking Spaghetti

  1. 6

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil.

  2. 7

    Cook Spaghetti

Add spaghetti (12 oz) to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Combine and Serve

  1. 8

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Once the meatballs are cooked, add them to the marinara sauce and let simmer for 5 minutes.

  2. 9

    Serve

Serve the spaghetti topped with meatballs and marinara sauce. Garnish with additional grated Parmesan cheese (2 oz) and fresh basil (1 tbs).
