Prepare the Marinara Sauce

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes. Stir in the dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Allow the sauce to simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Finish the Sauce
Remove from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil. Set aside to cool slightly.
Prepare the Calamari

Season the Calamari
In a bowl, combine the calamari rings with salt and black pepper. Mix well to ensure the calamari is evenly seasoned.

Bread the Calamari
Dredge each calamari ring in the flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Place on a plate and repeat until all calamari are breaded.

Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Serve the fried calamari hot with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
