Preparing the Marinara Sauce

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

Simmer the Sauce
Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chopped fresh basil at the end.
Preparing the Calamari

Prepare the Calamari
Slice the cleaned calamari into rings, if not already done. Pat them dry with paper towels.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

Coat the Calamari
Dredge the calamari rings in the flour mixture until well coated.

Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Calamari
Fry the calamari in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Serve
Serve the fried calamari hot with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
