Method

Preparation of Cake Base

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until fully combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and vegetable oil until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Prepare Baking Pan

Grease an 8-inch round cake pan with oil or line it with parchment paper.

  6. 6

    Pour Batter

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  8. 8

    Cool the Cake

Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Making Chocolate Ganache

  1. 9

    Heat Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer, but do not let it boil.

  2. 10

    Melt Chocolate

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

  3. 11

    Cool Ganache

Let the ganache cool slightly at room temperature until it thickens to a pourable consistency.

Assembling the Cake

  1. 12

    Pour Ganache

Once the cake has cooled completely, pour the chocolate ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  2. 13

    Garnish

Decorate the cake with chocolate shavings and fresh berries as desired.

  3. 14

    Serve

Slice the cake and serve it on plates, enjoying the rich chocolate flavor.
