Fried Tofu Banh Mi Ingredients

Method

Fried Tofu Banh Mi Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tofu

Press the tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut it into thick slices.

  2. 2

    Fry the Tofu

Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the tofu slices until golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  3. 3

    Make the Sambal Mayo

In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise with sambal oelek. Set aside.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Pickled Vegetables

Combine pickled carrots and pickled daikon radish together in a bowl. Add a pinch of salt and toss.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Rolls

Slice the French rolls lengthwise, but do not cut all the way through. Spread hoisin sauce on one side of each roll.

  6. 6

    Build the Banh Mi

Layer the fried tofu on the hoisin-smeared side of the roll. Top with pickled vegetables, sambal mayo, sliced scallions, and fresh cilantro.

  7. 7

    Serve

Close the rolls and serve immediately with extra sambal mayo on the side, if desired.
