Bread Ingredients

Method

Bread Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Allow to sit for about 5-10 minutes, until frothy.

  2. 2

    Make Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center, then add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape Baguettes

After the first rise, punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions. Roll each portion into a long baguette shape.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Place the shaped baguettes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with a cloth and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.

  7. 7

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Just before baking, use a sharp knife to make a few slashes on top of each baguette.

  8. 8

    Bake Baguettes

Bake the baguettes for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. They should sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  9. 9

    Prepare Dipping Sauce

In a small bowl, combine balsamic vinegar, red wine, black pepper, and dried Italian herbs. Mix well.

  10. 10

    Serve

Slice the baguettes and serve warm with the balsamic and red wine dipping sauce, sprinkled with grated Parmesan cheese.
