Hot Dogs & Buns
Optional Toppings (choose as desired)
Cooking / Serving
Method
Preparation
Remove hot dogs and buns from packaging. If using toppings that need prep (chop onion, drain sauerkraut), prepare them now and place in small bowls for assembly.
Cooking the Hot Dogs
Simmering (recommended for juiciness)
Place 2 cups of water and 0.25 tsp salt in a medium saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Add all beef hot dogs and reduce heat to low. Simmer gently for 5–6 minutes, turning once, until heated through. Do not boil vigorously to avoid splitting skins.
Pan‑frying (for browned exterior)
Heat a nonstick or cast‑iron skillet over medium heat and add 1 tbsp vegetable oil. Add hot dogs in a single layer and cook, turning occasionally, 6–8 minutes until evenly browned and heated through.
Toasting Buns
Assembly & Serving
Place one hot dog into each toasted bun.
Yield: 4 assembled hot dogs. Serve with optional sides such as fries, chips, or a pickle spear.
