1

Build and stir

Place the simple syrup into a mixing glass or base of a rocks glass if you prefer to build. Add 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters (if using). Add 2 oz Frey Ranch bourbon or rye. Add a large handful of ice to the mixing glass.

2

Stir to chill and dilute

Stir the mixture for about 20–30 seconds (15–20 full rotations) until properly chilled and slightly diluted. The liquid should be cold and slightly viscous.

3

Prepare serving glass

Place a large ice cube into a chilled rocks glass.

4

Strain

Strain the stirred cocktail over the large ice cube in the rocks glass.

5

Garnish

Thread one Luxardo cherry on a pick and rest it on the rim or drop into the glass. Express an orange twist over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down above the glass and giving it a firm twist to spray the oils onto the surface, then rub the peel on the glass rim and drop it into the drink or lay it atop the ice.

6

Serve

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the balance of whiskey, bitters, and cherry with the bright orange oil.
