Method

Cooking the Sauce

  1. 1

    Sauté the Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cooking the Spaghetti

  1. 3

    Boil the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta and set aside.

Making Garlic Toast

  1. 4

    Prepare the Toast

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Mix the softened butter, garlic powder, and chopped parsley in a small bowl. Spread the mixture evenly on the sliced French bread and place on a baking sheet.

  2. 5

    Bake the Toast

Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and toasted.

Assembling the Meal

  1. 6

    Combine and Serve

Serve the spaghetti topped with the homemade sauce. Accompany with garlic toast and a side of mixed greens or coleslaw dressed to taste.
