Country Fried Steak Ingredients

Method

Country Fried Steak Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Begin by tenderizing the round steak with a meat mallet until it's about 1/2 inch thick. Season both sides with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

  2. 2

    Bread the Steak

Set up a breading station with one bowl of flour, one bowl of beaten eggs mixed with milk, and a plate for the breaded steaks. Dip each steak into the flour, then into the egg mixture, and finally back into the flour. Ensure each steak is well-coated.

  3. 3

    Fry the Steak

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the breaded steaks to the skillet. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the steaks and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

  4. 4

    Make the Gravy

In the same skillet, remove excess oil, leaving about 2 tablespoons. Add butter and let it melt. Whisk in flour to create a roux, cooking for about 1 minute. Gradually add beef broth while whisking to avoid lumps. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook until thickened.

  5. 5

    Serve

Place the fried steaks on plates and generously ladle the homemade brown gravy over the top. Serve hot.
