Preparing the Cod

Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the cold water until the batter is smooth.

Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Batter the Cod
Dip each cod fillet into the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated.

Fry the Cod
Carefully place the battered cod into the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Drain
Remove the cod from the oil and drain on paper towels.
Preparing the French Fries

Cut the Potatoes
Peel and cut the potatoes into thin strips to make fries.

Soak the Potatoes
Soak the potato strips in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

Heat the Oil
In a separate pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add the soaked potato strips to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.

Drain and Season
Remove the fries from the oil and drain on paper towels. Season with salt to taste.
