Method
Prepare
- 1
- 2
Muddle blackberries
In a cocktail shaker, place 2 fresh blackberries and muddle gently until broken down but not completely puréed (about 6–8 light presses). This releases color and aroma without too much seed.
Build & Shake
- 3
Add 2 oz añejo tequila, 1/2 oz blackberry liqueur, 3/4 oz fresh lime juice, 1/2 oz cooled honey syrup, 1/4 oz ginger liqueur (or ginger syrup), and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into the shaker with the muddled blackberries.
- 4
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup), secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted.
- 5
Double-strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass to remove seeds and coarse pulp, leaving a silky, deep-hued cocktail.
Finish & Serve
- 6
Garnish the cocktail with a lime wheel on the rim and float a whole blackberry on the surface. For an optional dramatic touch, clench a smoked rosemary sprig or briefly torch a rosemary sprig and wave it over the drink to add an aromatic, 'all gas' smoky note.
- 7
Serve immediately. Sip to appreciate the layered flavors: rich oak and caramel from the añejo, bright citrus, jammy blackberry, and a warm ginger-honey backbone.
