Method
Biscuits
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- 3
Cut in Butter
Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 4
Add Buttermilk
Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 5
Shape Biscuits
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead a few times. Pat into a 1-inch thick round and cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter.
- 6
Bake
Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
Sausage Gravy
- 7
Cook Sausage
In a skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the breakfast sausage until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
- 8
Make Roux
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
- 9
Add Milk
Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- 10
Season
Add salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine and let simmer for another 2 minutes.
Homestyle Breakfast Potatoes
- 11
Prepare Potatoes
Wash and dice the russet potatoes into bite-sized pieces.
- 12
Season Potatoes
In a bowl, toss the diced potatoes with olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- 13
Cook Potatoes
Spread the seasoned potatoes on a baking sheet and roast in the oven at 425°F (220°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until golden and crispy, stirring halfway through.
Eggs
- 14
- 15
Cook Eggs
In a non-stick skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Pour in the egg mixture and scramble until they are just set, about 3-5 minutes.
